James Wyatt remodels Goodwood House

1790s

The architect James Wyatt was commissioned by the 3rd Duke of Richmond to remodel and enlarge Goodwood House. Wyatt's ambitious octagonal plan was only partially completed, but the finished wings contain the State Apartments that house the estate's outstanding art collection, including works by Canaletto, Stubbs and Van Dyck.
