How do I get to Goodwood?
Goodwood is approximately three miles north-east of Chichester in West Sussex. By car, take the A27 Chichester bypass and exit onto the A285 towards Petworth. The estate is signed from the A285. Shuttle buses operate between the station and the estate during major events. The estate also has its own aerodrome for private aircraft.

The Festival of Speed is held over four days in July, typically the second or third weekend of the month. Tickets go on sale several months before the event and frequently sell out. Check the Goodwood website for specific dates each year.
When is the Goodwood Revival?
The Goodwood Revival is held over three days in September, typically the second or third weekend of the month. Practice takes place on Friday, with racing on Saturday and Sunday. The event features historic racing cars from 1948 to 1966 on the original motor circuit, and spectators are encouraged to dress in period clothing. Tickets should be booked well in advance as the event regularly sells out.
When is Glorious Goodwood?
The Qatar Goodwood Festival, known as Glorious Goodwood, is held over five days in late July or early August, typically starting on a Tuesday and finishing on a Saturday. The meeting features world-class flat racing, including the Sussex Stakes, the Goodwood Cup and the Stewards' Cup. Tickets are available for individual days or the full meeting.
Do I need to dress up for the Revival?
Period dress is encouraged but not compulsory at the Goodwood Revival. The vast majority of visitors do dress in clothing inspired by the 1940s, 1950s or 1960s, and dressing up is part of the experience. The Revive and Thrive vintage market on site sells authentic vintage and reproduction clothing. Simple, affordable vintage-style outfits are perfectly acceptable, and the atmosphere is inclusive rather than judgemental.
Can I walk the motor circuit?
Yes, the Goodwood Motor Circuit can be walked on non-event days, following the 2.4-mile perimeter track. The heritage trail passes each of the circuit's famous corners and offers interpretive panels with historical information. Access may be restricted during track days, filming or private events. Check with the estate before visiting to confirm access.
Is there a dress code for Goodwood Racecourse?
The Richmond Enclosure at Goodwood Racecourse has guidelines encouraging smart attire: jackets for men, smart dresses or trouser suits for women. Hats are encouraged but not compulsory. The Gordon Enclosure is less formal and accepts smart casual dress. Jeans, trainers and sportswear are not appropriate in either enclosure. The dress code is more relaxed than Royal Ascot.
Can I play golf at Goodwood?
Yes, Goodwood Golf Club welcomes green-fee visitors on both the Downs Course and the Park Course. Booking a tee time in advance is recommended, particularly during summer and at weekends. Green fees vary by season and day. The Downs Course, designed by James Braid, is the more challenging option with panoramic views. The Park Course is shorter and more sheltered.
What is The Kennels?
The Kennels is Goodwood's private members' club, housed in converted Georgian kennels designed by James Wyatt. It offers a restaurant serving organic estate produce, a bar, a health club with gym and pool, and event spaces. Membership provides year-round access to the club's facilities. The restaurant is available to members and their guests.
Can I fly a Spitfire at Goodwood?
Several operators based at or visiting Goodwood Aerodrome offer flights in genuine Supermarine Spitfires. These are passenger experiences rather than piloting opportunities, but they provide the extraordinary experience of flying in a wartime fighter from the same airfield that Spitfires flew during the Battle of Britain. Flights are expensive and book up well in advance.
Where can I eat near Goodwood?
Dining options include The Kennels and the Goodwood Hotel on the estate, Farmer Butcher Chef for casual organic dining, and several village pubs nearby. The Earl of March in Lavant is a well-regarded dining pub, the Fox Goes Free at Charlton offers hearty food in a historic setting, and the Partridge Inn at Singleton serves straightforward pub fare. The Goodwood Farm Shop sells picnic provisions.
Where should I stay for a Goodwood event?
The Goodwood Hotel is on the estate itself. Chichester, three miles away, has the widest range of hotels, bed and breakfasts and guest houses. Village accommodation in Lavant, Singleton and East Dean provides a rural alternative. Camping and glamping are available during the Festival of Speed and Revival. Book well in advance for any major event, as accommodation sells out months ahead.
What is the Goodwood Home Farm?
Goodwood Home Farm is one of the largest lowland organic farms in England, spanning approximately 12,000 acres. The farm produces organic beef, lamb, pork, poultry, dairy and arable crops using traditional and rare breeds.
