The A285 is the principal road connecting Chichester to the Goodwood estate and continuing north to Petworth. The road passes through the village of Halnaker, where a lane leads to the restored Halnaker Windmill on the hilltop above. The road is the main approach for visitors arriving from the south and east, and it joins the estate road network near the motor circuit and aerodrome.
