East Lavant

A quiet flint-and-brick hamlet at the foot of The Trundle with direct access to the finest downland walks

East Lavant is a small hamlet on the eastern approach to the Goodwood estate, sitting below the chalk escarpment with The Trundle visible above. The hamlet consists of flint cottages and a few larger houses, with a character that is deeply rural and peaceful. The walk from East Lavant to The Trundle is one of the most popular short walks in the area, ascending through wildflower-rich chalk grassland to the Iron Age hillfort on the summit. The hamlet's connection to the Goodwood estate is historical and ongoing, with many properties having origins as estate buildings. East Lavant has no shops or services of its own, with residents relying on Chichester for everyday needs.
